During its long and difficult life, two stages stand out: in the first one, his first 14 volumes were published in Vitoria between 1921 and 1935. Its publishing, interrupted by the civil war and his director's and collaborators exile, the publication starts a second stage again, as a publication of the Sociedad de Ciencias Aranzadi under the leadership of his founder. During this phase, which goes from the year 1955 to 1981, 16 volumes have been published.
The Sociedad de Estudios Vascos-Eusko Ikaskuntza completely reestablished in 1978 and with the consent of the Sociedad de Estudios Aranzadi, the Anuario de Eusko Folklore became a publication of the Sociedad de Estudios Vascos again. In 1988, the SEV gives the Anuario de Eusko Folklore to the Foundation José Miguel de Barandiarán as a constituent good. The Anuario basically covers research works carried out in the field of the Basque ethnography, although some of its volumes include research works in the field of prehistory and paletnography. Its 49 volumes already published form a corpus of ethnographic materials essential for someone who studies the Basque traditional culture.
